I hurt my back when I was on a trip and when I got back the pain continued. I work with autistic children and one of the children was having a temper tantrum on the floor and I went to lift him up and as soon as I lifted him I felt a very sharp pain. I knew I needed to see a spine surgeon.

How did you find Dr. McCance?
My cousin had seen Dr McCance after an accident and she spoke very highly of him. I decided to go see him.
Why did you choose Dr. McCance for your spine surgery?
I thought he was very to the point. I thought he was very intelligent and he knew what he was talking about. What I really liked about him as a doctor is that he didn’t sugar coat things for me. ‘This is what you have. This is what you need. We’re going to help you and we’re going to fix it.’ It made me feel confident that this would work.
Went to see him on a Wednesday. Had an MRI that day. Next morning woke up and couldn’t feel anything below my waist—very numb and tingly. Called Dr. McCance and they saw me that afternoon. He put me straight into the hospital. Friday I had the surgery. Saturday I was home. They did everything for me. They set up the appointment for the MRI. They really just listened to what I had to say and they really helped.
Everyone at the office, the entire staff, they are absolutely amazing. I feel like his Physician Assistants are incredible. I feel like everyone in his office was really helpful.
How do you feel now?
After my surgery I rested for a week and then I went back to work. So far I’m feeling really good. Now I can feel below my waist. I feel I’m getting better every day. Right after surgery I realized I could put my pants on without feeling pain. That was something I really needed.
I would definitely recommend Dr. McCance. If I knew someone who was having back trouble I would immediately say “here’s the name and number. He’s a great physician. He has a lot of experience.”
